Last night I went to sleep after an amazing party with an incredibly guilty consience, and spent six hours today, among other things, on my hands and knees scraping cigerette-ash-coated gum off of our wooden pub floor before scrubbing it clean, all the while collecting my thoughts. I had a conversation with a friend in sweden last night over the phone that took an unexpected turn, and made me realize that I've been rather unhonest or immoral or both recently concerning another person here; and I was so taken by my friend's sense of character and dignity ... well truth be told i'm at a loss for words, and am glad that we have a 4 day weekend starting now where I can go for many a long walk and think things over. The last time I wrote I was just about to go get some pea soup, little did I know it would be such a turning point in how things are going this semester. Magnus and I went in our Frack, Hanna in her traditional Swedish folk dress, and Helena in a formal dress she created herself, and afterwards went for a long (3+ hour) walk around the town. The weather was as beautiful as the company, we played in a playground we happend across on the side of the river, and then again with the demos in the giant monstrosity which is Angstrom labratoriet. We finished with dinner at Norrlands, a trip to Stockholms nation which unfortunately didn't have a line (nothing to pass!) so we didn't go in, and yes I'm an addict, ice cream at Kalmar. Work hit hard. Friday as a resource for the Stones pre-party (which left a mess worthy of any great Stones party for us to clean), where I cooked Flan, Saturday elevation, started at noon with a walk through the city with Hanna looking hopelessly for mexican spices and ultimately buying a bunch of banannas instead because they looked tasty; we served Lax med Dill sås, Enchiladas, Chicken Mole, Polenta med Fetaost-fylld paprika, and grilled spetts (with/without scampi), and of course chocolate kladkaka med orange-chocolate icecream along with the flan for dessert. Okay but the cool thing is, we didn't stay around to clean up. Instead, we hired in a km, downed some p-pris drinks while listening to a (rather good) elevation set, and made our way to whole-house norrlands svenska music klubben (stones/beat on the brat) which was packed with what I hear now was 1200+ people (wholy ...yeah...) which was rocking. Sexa at kalmar afterwards was also rather good. Sunday I woke early to meet Sarah for Fika, we were greeted at the table by Svante and Bernard who had crashed at Anders' after partying until 11am or something ridiculous and then drinking very expensive scotch (I think they scared Sarah a bit). I might have been a barhelp Sunday night, yes I think so, and I came to visit Magnus and tempt him to play frisbee while he was setting up the kitchen in the afternoon. Having so much energy, I went out for a long walk/jog/sprint/jumproping session late that night, came back and did more exercise, and then ate some well-disserved chocolate. Tuesday was a km, played frisbee with the resource and peeps while drinking smotthies in the wonderful weather, hectic night (was down 2 of the 3 people), but fortunately lots of help was around, and then we come to last night. Catta decided to have a klubverk kalmar's-closing-for-easter sexa, so of course we started the afternoon with frisbee, then hanna and I moved furnature upstares and played Yatzee with vanda and kalle. Svante arrived so we went to V-dala so he could get cash, and brought our frisbee into their Vinyl party (the guards approved! ;) and tossed it around a bit before we were kindly (or not so much) asked to stop. Jerker and svante got drunk quickly and spent most of the party sleeping on the stage- for me, it was a return to partys the american-style- I didn't drink too much, and spent the night meeting, talking with, and making new friends. The night ended with Vanda and I sitting ontop of the stove, eating ice cream, and toast with pesto, tomatoes, feta cheese, it was awsome and she turns out to be pretty cool, I hope we will see more of her socially during the second half of the semester. Okay my ramble is done. My head hurts like hell, probably due to the fact that I didn't eat dinner tonight (nothing was open including the supermarket after 6pm, so I starved), and instead sat in a dark room reading the screen play manuscript for Trainspotting, which was rather amusing and good and serious and scary at the same time. Can't wait to see the movie. -Jake |
